Protein Purification from Lab Scale to Process Scale

TOYOPEARL and TSKgel chromatography media

Purification of recombinant proteins typically involves some chromatographic steps. Filtration and virus inactivation steps complete the so called downstream processing of biological targets. Applying orthogonal separation modes maximize the separation power of the chromatographic unit operations.

Ion exchange chromatography is the most popular mode in biopurification. For specific applications affinity resins enable a fast and highly selective purification. The most prominent example is Protein A affinity purification of antibodies. Hydrophobic interaction chromatography under aqueous conditions is a mild alternative to reversed phase chromatography.

Dimensions of preparative columns range from small pre-packed columns for laboratory scale purifications to several hundred liter columns for large industrial processes. Tosoh resins can be applied for all scales.

TOYOPEARL and TSKgel resins are available for a variety of modes. The most popular resins are:
High capacity TOYOPEARL GigCap ion exchange resins »
TOYOPEARL AF-rProtein A HC-650 affintiy resins for mAb purification »

Hydrophobic interaction resins with various ligands covering a broad range of hydrophobicities »
TOYOPEARL MX-Trp-650M mixed-mode resin for difficult separation tasks »

Most resins are available in pre-packed formats to facilitate resin screening and method development.
