Director of Marketing Communication

The Director of Marketing Communication is a senior leadership role responsible for communication and strengthening Tosoh Bioscience’s branding, aligned with our business strategy to reach the organization’s objectives. The position sets and drives the organization’s creative direction, internal and external communication strategies, and marketing campaigns and publications. The individual will lead a global team of Marketing Communication professionals responsible for all aspects of Marketing Communication of Tosoh Bioscience. As a member of the executive management team, the Director of Marketing Communication will be involved in organization-wide strategic and business planning, evaluation, and professional development initiatives. 

In this role you report to the Executive Vice President of Tosoh Bioscience’s Separations and Purification Business. This position will have direct reports in multiple sites. 

The Director of Marketing Communication is expected to 

Strategic Targets and Responsibilities 

  • Articulate the organization’s desired image, reputation, and values through all communication channels 
  • Establish and drive an effective multi-channel communication strategy for the business 
  • Enhance customer experience with creative solutions and enablement tools 
  • Analyze customer journey to identify suitable communication tools and channels for customer personas 
  • Develop, implement, and monitor cross-functional processes and procedures to improve efficiency and reach departmental and organizational goals 
  • Develop short and long-term plans and budgets for the department and its activities, monitor progress, assure adherence and constantly evaluate the performance of the team 
  • Build cross-functional relationships with the internal stakeholders to understand products, customers, and industry to develop and implement effective marketing strategies 
  • Collaborate with the business team (sales, product management) to create and implement go-to-market strategies for new and existing products, services, and solutions 
  • Direct the development and execution of integrated digital marketing strategies that drive customer engagement and lead nurturing while gathering and reporting meaningful data analytics for decision making 

Tactical Duties and Responsibilities 

  • Develop, implement, and evaluate marketing plans and campaigns that include social media, print and digital content, and email marketing 
  • Spearheads the tactical execution of marketing campaigns and activities, including advertising, public relations, events, promotions, and sales tools. 
  • Explore and adopt new channels, tools, and platforms to optimize marketing communication 
  • Oversee the design, development, and distribution of consistent themes and messaging aligned with corporate and product strategies and guidelines 
  • Oversee planning for tradeshows and conferences to showcase solutions while amplifying product messaging 
  • Champion digital transformation 
  • Increase company’s digital presence and footprint through Social Media 
  • Implement performance metrics, analytics, and tracking tools to measure marketing campaigns’ effectiveness and reach 
  • Track engagement across various publication platforms and make data-driven decisions 
  • Develop sales enablement tools for direct and indirect sales channels 
  • Responsible for editorial direction, design, production, and distribution of all organization publications 
  • Build relationships with advertising and media partners 

Leadership and Management Duties 

  • Establish a high-performance culture within the department via communication of clear expectations and targets. 
  • Recruit and retain top talent for the Marketing Communication team. 
  • Select, develop, and evaluate personnel to ensure the efficient operation of the function. 
  • Ensure that training, coaching, and mentoring programs are developed, implemented and effective for all levels of the Marketing Communication team. 
  • Conduct performance reviews to guide performance management and employee development efforts and manage toward departmental goals. 
  • Demonstrate a high standard of work ethic and professionalism to subordinates, peers, and superiors at all times. 
  • Uphold and adhere to the Tosoh Bioscience culture and guiding principles. 

Requirements 

  • Master’s degree in Marketing, Advertising, Communications, or related fields 
  • MBA a plus 
  • 10+ years experience in Marketing, Communication, Branding, or related roles 
  • Experience in Life Sciences industry strongly preferred. Experience in Marketing or Communication agencies is a plus. 
  • Strong track record in successfully leading Marketing Communication teams at senior level 
  • Must be able to lead a team in a fast pace environment while meeting organizational and business objectives 
  • Expert in essential digital marketing tools and technologies 
  • Strong creative, strategic, analytical, organizational, and personal skillset 
  • Comfortable working in a matrix organization and cross-functional teams 
  • Proven ability to understand personas and map customer journeys 
  • Demonstrated resourcefulness in setting priorities, proposing new ways of creating efficiencies, and introducing new tools ideas 
  • A self-starter able to manage multiple concurrent projects 
  • Knowledge of financial components, of product and marketing management including profit contributions (costs, pricing, and mix), PNL statements, budget and other financial matrix 
  • Strong leadership and business skills 
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills in English and German. Further languages are a plus. 
  • Ability to travel internationally as needed (25-30 %) 
  • This position is based in the Frankfurt area (Hybrid)
